Kaiholo Hale residents enjoy a very short commute to what is considered to be one of the best (if not THE best) place for windsurfing. Ho'okipa is the Hawaiian word for 'hospitality' and as such, it is no surprise that some major world-class competitions are hosted at this location, such as the Aloha Classic and the Red Bull King of the Air. Winter enjoys the largest waves, breaking over a system of reefs that take advantage of the typical trade winds in the east/northeast direction.

It has become a popular destination for both visitors and locals to come and enjoy breathtaking views in an unparallaled setting. The park boasts picnic tables, restrooms, parking areas, showers, and a 1/8 coral reef that results in a pond-like area perfect for families to enjoy. Remain conscientious that Ho'okipa Beach has become a popular destination for world-class windsurfers and kite-surfers due to its year-round strong currents and dangerous surf.

road to hana

To anyone familiar with the trip, it's not a surprise at all that Maui's "Road to Hana" was named as one of America's top 10 road trips. After slowing down through the surfer paradise of Paia, drivers (and passengers alike) will enjoy the next few hours as some of the best driving in America lays ahead. Here are a few tips for those making the venture:

* Don't fool yourself into thinking that this will be a short drive through Maui's North Shore, this IS an all day event (and one which will live in your memory for the rest of your life).
* At the halfway point (it is well-marked), stop at Aloha island Shaved Ice. It is one of the best shaved ice places in Hawaii and certainly the best in Maui. After this point, the driving fun will begin with hairpin turns and one-lane bridges.
* Take turns at the wheel as this is a very fun road to drive, specially for those ready for a challenge. 600 hairpin turns will test your reflexes as much as traffic will test your patience.
* Stop at any of the many roadside stands, you will find remarkably fresh produce, bread, and collectibles that are not found anywhere else, making for great souvenirs.
* Take the time to stop along any of the pristine waterfalls that adorn the Road to Hana. Hiking trails abound, but use caution and common sense (this is not a 'walk in the park'). Wear appropriate clothing/shoes and don't stray too far from trails/paths.
* While you are at it, continue on to the Seven Sacred Pools (O'heo Gulch). It is one of the hidden wonders of the world and well worth the trip. Imagine dipping in a relaxing, calm, fresh water pool with the ocean as your soundtrack.

This world-famous adventure is a must for any visitor and resident of the Valley Isle.  Kaiholo Hale is the perfect accommodation to begin your Road to Hana journey, contact us for availability and information.
